Model : KORROX-III

The Salt Spray Chamber, also referred as a Salt Fog Test Chamber or Corrosion Test Chamber, is an advanced laboratory test instrument used to create and intensify corrosive conditions for the purpose of evaluating the long-term effects of salt on an object and its material. It generates a highly controlled, fine salt mist to evaluate the corrosion resistance, durability and quality of protective coatings on metal substrates and finished components under reproducible conditions. The salt spray chamber is the universal practice in corrosion testing that is estimated to be utilized by the automotive, aerospace, metal finishing, marine, electronics and construction industries.

Overview

Salt spray test chamber is an advanced corrosion test equipment which can evaluate the anti-corrosive capability of material and surface coating. It is no easy task scanning & recoding codes in the codeplug and then testing codeplugs to verify them. The principle of the chamber is simple, but effective – an atomiser or nozzle emits a fine mist of sodium chloride (NaCl) solution into the test room, forming a salty fog with unprecedented levels of corrosivity.

Samples are introduced to this controlled atmosphere and exposed for a given time period. The chamber has accurate control over its temperature, pH and salt concentration to produce reliable results. The test is designed to help manufacturers evaluate coating performance, detect material weaknesses and establish the longer-term durability of products in categories including automotive, marine, architectural construction and industrial applications.

How Does a Salt Spray Chamber Work?

A Salt Spray Chamber creates an accelerated, controlled corrosive environment to test the long-term effects of exposure on materials. A sodium chloride (NaCl) and water solution is atomized through a nozzle to assist in creating the fine salt mist that is deposited into the chamber which will then settle on test samples.

The chamber is controlled for fixing temperature, humidity and pH, to create the condition of corrosion in real life. For typical exposures created by one of these panels, during a given period exposure shows how well coatings or metals or finishes resist rust and deteriorations. The measured data supports the manufacturer in the assessment of product quality as well as in optimization of surface treatments and fulfilment of international corrosion test criteria.

Benefits of Salt Spray Chamber

Here are the benefits of a salt spray tester:

Accelerated Corrosion Testing

Salt spray testers allow for the rapid assessment of corrosion resistance in materials. This type of testing duplicates extreme environments to give manufacturers a good indication of long-term performance and longevity in only a few days instead of permitting months of real-world exposure.

Quality Assurance

Salt spray testers also offer assurance that coatings, paints, and metal surfaces are compliant with industry standards. Salt spray results can verify reliability, consistency, and performance before products are brought to market or shipped to consumers.

Product Enhancement

Testing materials and coatings can identify areas of weakness in material compositions or applications. This allows manufacturers the opportunity to reformulate a stronger coating to add to its overall performance, as well as its corrosion resistance.

Cost Effectiveness

Rather than spending resources, both time and material, on outdoor exposure testing, developing and using salt spray testing is an expense-saving intervention.

Standardization

Salt Spray chambers assure that manufacturers can meet global testing standards such as ASTM B117 and ISO 9227. This provides credibility and acceptance when exporting their products.

Applications

Automotive Industry Testing

Salt spray chambers are commonly applied for testing the corrosion resistance of automotive components, such as body panels, fasteners, and coatings. This helps vehicles retain durability and appearance under exposure to road salts, humidity, and marine environments, ensuring safety and long-term performance.

Aerospace Component Evaluation

Aircraft parts, including landing gear, fasteners, and structural metals, are subjected to salt spray chambers to mimic extreme environmental conditions at high altitudes and coastal airports to ensure materials are resistant to corrosion, maintain their structural integrity, and meet strict aerospace safety standards.

Coating and Paint Validation

Salt spray chambers are employed by manufacturers to evaluate protective paint and coatings on metals. By mimicking corrosive environments, manufacturers can measure adhesion, quality of coverage, and resistance, thereby optimizing surface treatments for durable and good-looking products.

Marine Equipment Testing

Marine fittings, ships' anchors, and offshore structures are salt-sprayed to determine resistance to seawater and salt-contaminated air. This makes them more durable, reduces premature failure, and lowers maintenance costs under hostile marine conditions.

Protection of Electronics and Electrical Components

Salt spray chambers assist in checking the corrosion resistance of electrical connectors, circuit boards, and enclosures. Treatment with salt-laden mist ensures that coatings and materials avoid short circuits or degradation, leading to effective performance in coastal or industrial settings.
